CHEGA deputy Francisco Gomes has accused Miguel Albuquerque of corrupting the true purpose of autonomy. According to the parliamentarian, the regional government has stopped prioritizing the interests of Madeirans to serve, in his view, a political-business elite linked to power.
Gomes argues that this governance model explains the executive's inability to address key regional problems such as the lack of affordable housing and the worsening waiting lists in the Regional Health Service. The deputy stated that Albuquerque has turned autonomy into a tool for the illicit enrichment of "a certain political caste and companies associated with the ruling party".
The parliamentarian also suggested that the growth of certain economic groups and the wealth accumulated by some political officials warrant rigorous public scrutiny, as it is not the result of honest work but of a "system of schemes" within the regional government. Gomes emphasized that autonomy belongs to the Madeiran people, not the PSD, and that CHEGA has led the defense of Madeira's interests in the Assembly of the Republic, achieving concrete results.
