The SINERGIA Energy Union met with the JPP party to discuss crucial issues regarding the Autonomous Region of Madeira's electricity system. Topics covered included technical challenges, sustainability, and consumer protection.
The union highlighted the significant differences between an interconnected electricity system, like the Iberian one, and an isolated system such as Madeira's. In isolated systems, the absence of neighboring systems to absorb production or renewable energy availability deviations necessitates internal firm power and storage solutions to ensure the security and expansion of these sources.
SINERGIA acknowledged the investments made by the EEM Group through the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), particularly in hydroelectric production, but warned of the need for continuous attention to meteorological variability. The preservation and public domain reinforcement of the EllaLink submarine cable infrastructure, through EMACOM, was also advocated to mitigate wholesale energy costs.
Regarding labor matters, the union conveyed its positions to the JPP on transparent negotiations, a hybrid evaluation system, and the review of the Collective Labor Regulation Instrument. SINERGIA thanked them for the frank dialogue and expressed availability for future technical contributions, reiterating its commitment to the population's access to energy at the best price and with the best public policy solutions.
