At the XXIII Banana Fair in Madalena do Mar, the Chega party highlighted the need to value daily agricultural production work and ensure legitimate representation for banana sector associations.
Zack Abreu, Chega's Ponta do Sol chairman, engaged with producers and entrepreneurs, listening to their concerns. The party noted a consensus on demanding higher prices per kilo from GESBA, improved efficiency in product collection and delivery, and prompt payment of aid and compensation.
Chega insists on full transparency in sector management, referencing their 2023 parliamentary initiative for an independent financial audit of GESBA. They also called for greater regional government attention to climate impacts, warning that delays in product reception damage quality and farmer income, advocating for "fairer prices" and byproduct valorization.
