PS Accuses Regional Secretary of Agriculture of Lying About Banana Market

The president of PS-Madeira, Célia Pessegueiro, accused the Regional Secretary of Agriculture and Fisheries, Nuno Maciel, of lying blatantly about the policy followed by GESBA.

According to the PS, the Regional Government created measures that prevent banana producers from organizing freely and marketing their product, keeping them tied to GESBA under penalty of losing community support. The party claims that the requirements for creating new producer associations are disproportionate for Madeira, contrasting with those on the mainland.

The PS has already filed a complaint with the Competition Authority, which warned the government to review these practices, but without success. Célia Pessegueiro demands that Nuno Maciel acknowledge the lie, that the government comply with the Legislative Assembly's decision and the Competition Authority's recommendation, opening the market to free competition.
