CHEGA and Independent Councillors Criticize Regional Government for Lack of Transparency

Councillors Luís Filipe Santos (CHEGA) and Jorge Afonso Freitas (Independent) are demanding clarification from the Regional Government regarding preventive measures for a 29,000 square meter area in Amparo, Funchal. Following 55 questions submitted to the Municipal Chamber, the official response confirmed the lack of a concrete housing project and the technical studies that underpinned the initiative.

The councillors criticize the Regional Government's "lack of transparency" and "institutional disrespect," deeming the situation "politically serious." They allege that the Funchal Municipal Chamber lacks essential information on building volume, housing density, impact studies, timelines, or accessibility, with the Regional Government being responsible for the documentation.

According to the councillors, the Regional Government failed to ensure serious and transparent coordination with the Municipal Chamber, not providing the necessary technical elements for evaluating the initiative. They believe the regional executive cannot treat the municipality as a secondary entity.
