The Chega party (CH) has submitted a request to the Assembly of the Republic to summon the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing for a parliamentary hearing.
The initiative aims to obtain clarifications on the terms of TAP's partial privatization and Lufthansa's entry into the airline's capital, with CH arguing that foreign participation should not compromise national strategic interests.
Madeiran MP Francisco Gomes stated that TAP is a strategic company for Portugal, its autonomous regions, and the diaspora, and that the government must ensure the protection of national interests. CH has outlined five fundamental conditions: maintaining connections to Portuguese communities abroad, safeguarding routes to Madeira and the Azores, preserving jobs, ensuring the continuity of the operational hub in Lisbon, and keeping Portuguese as the official language of TAP.
