Chega Denounces Neglect and Problems in Santo Amaro and Santa Quitéria

The Chega Madeira party has publicly denounced problems related to sanitation, security, and alleged irregularities in public housing in the area between the Santo Amaro Daycare and the Santa Quitéria Industrial Zone, in Funchal.

According to Chega, following a site visit, "serious urban sanitation problems and chronic waste collection failures" were observed, along with abandoned and littered gardens. The party also alleges that IHM housing units are occupied by immigrants, raising suspicions of "public property appropriation," "illegal subletting," or improper allocation of public housing.

Chega Madeira also reported an increase in open-air drug dealing and consumption, and a sense of insecurity among residents, with employees of a large commercial establishment needing to group together to leave work safely at night. The party calls for urgent and rigorous oversight of public housing and increased community policing, criticizing the Funchal City Council for "looking the other way" regarding the area's deterioration.
