Chega councilor in the Funchal Municipal Chamber (CMF), Luís Filipe Santos, announced he will propose the quarterly disclosure of a report on the municipality's housing response.
The proposal would include data on active applications, assigned housing units, vacant municipal properties, properties under renovation, newly completed homes, and average waiting times.
Santos cited that in January 2026, there were 3,070 social housing applications in Funchal, with 2,812 active and processed. He also advocates for periodic monitoring of social housing beneficiaries and believes the goal should be to reduce the waiting list, not just manage it. The Local Housing Strategy projects approximately 300 new housing units by 2029.
