The Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) party has announced it will present a legislative proposal to the Legislative Assembly of Madeira this week, aiming to reduce Value Added Tax (VAT) and fuel prices.
The initiative proposes lowering VAT from 22% to 16%, coupled with a reduction in the Tax on Petroleum Products and Energy (ISP). According to Élvio Sousa, JPP's Secretary-General, the measure seeks to alleviate the impact of rising fuel costs on families, workers, and businesses.
JPP argues that the Regional Government has room to reduce the ISP and that this should be used to lower fuel costs. The party also suggests that tax burden reduction should be accompanied by public spending adjustments to offset potential revenue loss.
