Chega questions cut of 180 parking spaces at Praia Formosa

Councillor Luís Filipe Santos seeks clarification on the reduced parking planned at Praia Formosa and on the terms agreed with private partners.

Luís Filipe Santos, Chega councillor on the Funchal municipal council, is questioning the reduction in the number of parking spaces planned for Praia Formosa, and is demanding explanations about the conditions agreed with private partners.

According to the councillor, in a press release, 600 spaces were planned in 2023, a figure reportedly reduced to 420 in 2026, of which 360 are underground and 60 at surface level. This amounts to a reduction of 180 spaces, and he says users will have to pay for parking.

Santos calls for the reasons behind the change and the terms of future operation to be clarified, arguing the matter should be assessed in the public interest. He said he will continue to demand transparency and political accountability.
