Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), defeated in Brazil's presidential election, reportedly left the country on Tuesday and travelled to the United States, with Florida initially named as the destination. Reuters and CNN reported the move, but the route and exact arrival point remain unconfirmed.
The departure follows the senator's failure to meet a deadline set by Supreme Federal Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who ordered him to hand over his ordinary and diplomatic passports within 24 hours in a money-laundering inquiry. The Federal Police have cancelled his ordinary passports and are preparing to inform the judge of the non-compliance.
The Federal Police said there was no formal record of his exit from Brazil, suggesting he may not have passed a standard immigration checkpoint. Argentina denied having any record of his entry. His defence has not yet officially commented.
