CHEGA Questions Response to Traffic Congestion in Western Madeira

CHEGA representative Roberto Gonçalves criticizes current traffic measures in western Madeira, calling for a long-term mobility strategy.

Roberto Gonçalves, elected by CHEGA to the Ribeira Brava Parish Assembly, has voiced concern over worsening traffic problems in western Madeira. He believes that measures announced by local councils, such as increased police traffic control with an investment of 15,000 euros, are merely temporary fixes.

Gonçalves advocates for a long-term mobility strategy, emphasizing the urgent need to enhance public transport services between Ribeira Brava, Ponta do Sol, and Calheta. He suggests that faster and more reliable alternatives to private cars would encourage greater public adoption.

The representative also expressed unease regarding potential changes to traffic circulation within Ribeira Brava, stressing the importance of public consultation and explanation for any such decisions. He insists that Ribeira Brava should not be treated as a transit area, and that solutions must prioritize local residents.
