The youth wing of Chega-Madeira has criticized the Portuguese Government for the delay in fully implementing the new Territorial Continuity Mechanism. Although the changes have been approved and published into law, the integration of travel agencies into the system, which would allow residents to pay only their fixed contribution for tickets without advancing the full amount, is not yet functional.
Renata Rocha, coordinator for Chega Youth, stated that "what is absolutely shameful is that, months later, the government continues to fail to turn what was approved into a reality for the people." The organization expressed concern with the approaching Christmas season, a period of high travel demand, especially for students.
Chega-Madeira Youth also holds the Regional Government responsible for not exerting enough political pressure on the Republic Government to resolve the situation "every day" until the law is effectively implemented and improves the lives of Madeirans.
