The Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) used a skeleton representation and a tent in a public action to protest against the new rental law from the Republic's Government, which the party deems an "eviction package".
According to PCP official Ricardo Lume, the proposed changes to the law could lead to situations similar to those in Spain, where long-term tenants might be evicted at the landlord's whim. The PCP criticizes the legislation for creating more unstable rental contracts and facilitating tenants' departure from their homes.
The party argues that housing should not be treated as a commodity and that the "eviction package" must be overturned to ensure the constitutional right to housing.
