The Regional Civil Protection Service (SRPC, IP-RAM) has issued a warning about a temporary increase in the risk of rural fires in Madeira. This is due to persistent high temperatures and stronger winds forecast for Thursday, August 13.
According to the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), heat will continue to be felt in the coming days. On Thursday, an increase in wind intensity is expected, particularly in the eastern and western parts of the island and in the highlands, where air humidity is predicted to remain low, favoring the spread of fires.
Civil Protection recommends preventive measures, such as avoiding the use of equipment that could cause sparks in rural areas, not camping in forest areas, and respecting the ban on bonfires and burning until October 31. Additionally, it advises the public to stay hydrated and avoid sun exposure during the hottest hours, paying special attention to vulnerable groups.
