Independent councilor of the Funchal Municipal Chamber (CMF), Luís Filipe Santos, has claimed authorship of the proposal to allocate approximately 29,000 square meters of land in the Amparo area for the construction of controlled-cost housing.
Santos welcomed the decision announced by the Regional Government but maintains that the adopted solution aligns with an idea he has publicly defended for the past year. "This idea started with me, and I have been defending it for almost a year," he stated, emphasizing the need to utilize the area to address Funchal's housing problem.
In his statement, the councilor also advocated for a specific quota for the youth of Funchal municipality in the future housing project, arguing that "it is not enough to create affordable housing; it is necessary to ensure that Funchal's young people also have the opportunity to access these solutions." He affirmed that he will continue to monitor the process's development.
