Funchal Municipal Councillor Luís Filipe Santos has expressed concern over the condition of Rua Direita, calling for a "more careful and regular intervention".
Santos highlighted deficiencies in waste collection, insufficient public lighting, reports of rodents, and the presence of homeless individuals as factors contributing to a "sense of abandonment" in this historically significant city street.
The councillor advocated for increased cleaning, an assessment of the lighting, and more regular pest control measures. Regarding the homeless population, he suggested social support and coordination between the council and relevant entities to find dignified solutions that preserve public space.
