Funchal councilors denounce the state of disrepair at the Pico dos Barcelos viewpoint and call for urgent intervention.

Councilors Demand Urgent Cleaning of Pico dos Barcelos Viewpoint

Two councilors in the Funchal Municipal Assembly (CMF), Luís Filipe Santos and Jorge Afonso Freitas, are calling for urgent intervention at the Pico dos Barcelos viewpoint and its surrounding gardens, describing the state of degradation as "unworthy of one of the city's main reference points".

The councilors state they have received complaints from residents, accompanied by photographic evidence, regarding the lack of cleaning and maintenance at the site. They attribute responsibility to the Regional Government for the cleaning, maintenance, and restoration of the viewpoint, a "calling card of Funchal".

They argue that, even though it is not directly managed by the CMF, the Municipality should formally demand action from the Regional Government. If there is no response, the Council should consider a subsidiary intervention, subsequently seeking to charge the costs to the responsible entity. The councilors emphasize that it is unacceptable for residents to be confronted with a degraded public space while public entities debate responsibilities.
