The New Right Madeira party has voiced "serious concerns" regarding the alleged use of employment contracts by foreign nationals seeking to regularize their residency status.
According to the party, reports have been received from business owners alleging that some workers, after signing a contract, failed to show up for work but continued to demand payment, sometimes threatening to file complaints. The New Right also claims some individuals hold contracts with one employer while working elsewhere, without proper declaration of activity or payment of taxes and social security contributions.
Paulo Azevedo, coordinator of New Right Madeira, called for an urgent investigation into these situations if confirmed by authorities, to prevent business owners from being harmed. Azevedo urged the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA) to conduct rigorous checks on the authenticity of contracts submitted for residency applications, in cooperation with the Regional Labour Inspectorate and other relevant bodies.
