A diploma approved by the Legislative Assembly of Madeira grants the Madeira Electricity Company (EEM) the concession for the exclusive use of water resources associated with the Calheta Hydroelectric Plant.
This diploma also recognizes EEM as the managing entity for this multi-purpose project. Integrated and sustainable water management is highlighted as essential for public supply, irrigation, and energy production.
The Calheta Hydroelectric Plant includes the Pico da Urze reservoir, with a storage capacity of approximately one million cubic meters, serving as a strategic reserve for the region. The new legislation aims to adapt the legal framework to the integrated use of water resources, without altering their public nature or the rights of other users.
