The exhibition 'Lourdes Castro: There is Light in the Shadow', celebrating the work of one of the most important Portuguese artists of the 20th century, has opened at the Grão Vasco National Museum in Viseu. This initiative, promoted by the Regional Government of Madeira through the Regional Secretariat for Tourism, Environment and Culture and led by MUDAS – Museum of Contemporary Art of Madeira, has already visited the Azores and Lisbon.
The exhibition, curated by Márcia de Sousa, offers an intimate perspective on Lourdes Castro's artistic universe, presenting works, personal objects, and previously unseen documents, many from the artist's private archive. It serves as a posthumous tribute, exploring the fusion of personal archives with the creative process, memory, and the poetic dimension of existence.
Lourdes Castro (1930-2022), known for her unique artistic language focused on the theme of shadows, is a significant figure in contemporary Portuguese art. The exhibition will be on display in Viseu until October 25th, with free admission.
