The fire that started on Friday night in Canhas, Ponta do Sol municipality, reignited early Sunday morning in a difficult-to-access cliff area.
Approximately 25 firefighters from the Ribeira Brava and Ponta do Sol Mixed Fire Brigade, the Calheta Volunteer Fire Brigade, and the Funchal Fire Brigade are battling the flames, with helicopter support.
The difficult access to the site is hindering the intervention of ground resources. The fire, which affected an estimated area of between 24 and 25 hectares, is under investigation by the Judicial Police.
