The Funchal City Council (CMF) is set to expand its team of psychologists. This announcement was made by councilwoman Helena Leal during a discussion titled "Being a Psychologist in Times of Transformation," organized by the Regional Delegation of the Order of Psychologists.
The CMF currently employs 11 psychologists, with nine on the municipal staff and two at SocioHabitaFunchal. A recruitment drive for more professionals is currently in progress.
Helena Leal emphasized the crucial role of psychologists in public policy, extending their impact beyond treating psychological distress to encompass prevention, well-being promotion, and fostering resilient communities. She identified social changes, demographic aging, and digital transformation as key challenges necessitating this expanded role.
