José Egídio de Sousa Monteiro, who led the Portuguese Center of Caracas in Venezuela, has died in Madeira.
Originally from Loreto parish in Arco da Calheta, Monteiro had returned to the island after many years as an emigrant in Venezuela and resided in Santa Maria Maior, Funchal.
The funeral is scheduled for Saturday, September 5th, with the wake service from 8:30 AM at the Grande Homenagem funeral agency in Funchal. The funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM at the chapel of Nossa Senhora do Loreto in Arco da Calheta, followed by burial in the local cemetery.
The CDS-Madeira party expressed condolences for his passing; he is the father of party official Ana Cristina Monteiro. A seventh-day mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 7th, at 5:00 PM at the Igreja do Colégio in Funchal.
