The Calheta Municipal Council has approved an increase from 60 to 80 euros per month in the supplementary scholarship amount for students from the municipality attending higher education outside the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
This measure, approved at an executive meeting, represents an annual increase of approximately 40,000 euros in the municipality's investment. Calheta has about 300 university students, with 188 attending institutions outside the island last academic year.
Mayor Doroteia Leça stated that the reinforcement shows education remains a priority and that the executive is fulfilling an electoral commitment to ease the financial burden on families.
