Funchal Council Launches Environmental Campaign at MEO Sons do Mar Festival

The Funchal Municipal Council (CMF) will conduct an environmental awareness campaign during the MEO Sons do Mar festival, taking place on September 4th and 5th in Santa Catarina Park.

The municipality is urging festival-goers not to discard cigarette butts on the ground and to use the bins and recycling points within the venue correctly. This initiative follows similar actions already carried out at other summer events, such as Funchal Summer Opening and Funchal Jazz.

The campaign is a result of a partnership between the CMF's Environment Department and Youth Division, combining youth volunteering with the promotion of civic responsibility and sustainability. Volunteers will directly engage with the public to emphasize the importance of keeping the area clean and will distribute portable ashtrays. The CMF stresses that maintaining the cleanliness of public spaces also relies on the individual civic duty of each festival attendee.

This year's summer environmental campaign cycle will conclude on September 25th with the Carvão em Brasa festival at Quinta Magnólia.
