Funchal Council to Assess Firefighter Access in Bairro da Nazaré

The Funchal Municipal Council approved, on October 8, a recommendation proposed by Chega councilor Luís Filipe Santos to evaluate the accessibility and safety conditions for emergency services in Bairro da Nazaré, specifically in the residential area between Rua da Venezuela and Rua do Brasil.

The initiative aims to verify if firefighters and other emergency teams can access homes and maneuver vehicles adequately, considering the presence of urban furniture, concrete structures, walls, and vegetation. The proposal recommends a technical and operational assessment involving municipal services, civil protection, firefighters, and Investimentos Habitacionais da Madeira (IHM).

Factors to be analyzed include emergency vehicle access and maneuverability, identification of obstacles, and the location of fire hydrants. The possibility of a drill to test response capabilities is also foreseen. A final technical report will identify constraints and the need for corrective measures.
