The Funchal Municipal Chamber marked the first National Cobbler Day on July 22nd with a ceremony at the City Hall atrium. The event paid tribute to municipal cobblers and the traditional Madeiran pavement.
During the ceremony, the mayor highlighted the dedication of these professionals and the importance of preserving the existing Madeiran pavement heritage in Funchal. Projects for inventorying and conservation, undertaken by the municipality, were also mentioned.
The municipality also announced that it will approve, at the next Council meeting, the opening of a competition to hire six new cobblers. The aim is to strengthen and renew the team, ensuring the transfer of knowledge and experience from current workers.
