The city of Funchal lost over 107 million cubic meters of water in the past seven years. This wasted volume is six times greater than the amount of water recovered.
Despite a reduction in losses equivalent to seven thousand Olympic swimming pools, the rehabilitation of the water distribution network in Madeira's capital requires an estimated annual investment of 4.5 million euros.
Additionally, the price of water has increased by 46 cents for 80% of consumers, according to the print edition of Diário de Notícias da Madeira.
