Recent observations of accumulated trash along the PR1 trails, known as "The Peaks," have sparked concern. These tourist routes generate an estimated daily revenue of 9,000 euros, amounting to 3 million euros annually.
Despite this revenue, the consistent maintenance of cleanliness in these areas has been lacking. The Forestry Institute initiated a cleaning effort three days after the observations were posted, but it raises questions about the necessity of social media commentary to trigger essential maintenance activities.
One comment suggests that visitors also bear responsibility for taking their trash with them, drawing parallels to growing litter issues in Germany.
