The Port of Funchal is a strategic infrastructure for Madeira's economic autonomy, stated the Regional Secretary for Economy, José Manuel Rodrigues. The Regional Government will continue to invest in modernizing port infrastructure, technological innovation, digitalization, and environmental sustainability.
During the Funchal Port Day celebrations, Rodrigues emphasized the port's historical importance for the island's economic, commercial, and social evolution, adapting to new market demands while maintaining a secure and efficient connection to the world.
The cruise sector saw remarkable performance in 2025 with 746,257 passengers and 331 calls. The first half of 2026 confirms the growth trend, with an economic impact exceeding 38.4 million euros, highlighting Madeira's consolidation as a cruise destination in the Atlantic and the added value of turnaround and overnight operations.
