Region implements intermediate bed spaces and studies family support to address hospital discharges lacking social support.

Intermediate Beds and Home Support to Address Problematic Hospital Discharges

The Regional Secretariat for Inclusion, Labour and Youth has announced the creation of intermediate bed spaces as an urgent response for patients who are clinically discharged but lack social support.

In this initial phase, 20 spaces will be made available in an existing building, with eight ready next week and the rest within three to four weeks. The aim is to free up hospital beds unnecessarily occupied. Concurrently, home support services are being developed in collaboration with the Regional Secretariat for Health.

Changes to the Informal Caregiver Statute are also underway, including the future possibility of families receiving financial support to care for the elderly at home. The ordinance regulating intermediate bed spaces will be reformulated to allow the temporary inclusion of clinically discharged individuals in adapted residential structures.
