Iranian state TV issues civil defence guidance on nuclear attack

An official video explains how to respond to a possible nuclear blast, but does not signal that an attack is imminent.

Iran's state television has broadcast a civil defence video instructing the public on how to respond to a possible nuclear attack. The release comes amid heightened tensions with the United States.

The roughly eight-minute video uses artificially generated images to simulate a blast near a residential area. Its advice includes not looking at the flash, sheltering in the nearest building, staying away from windows, and, once the shockwave has passed, washing exposed skin and removing clothing without shaking it.

Health authorities stressed that iodine tablets should not be taken on one's own initiative. In Bushehr, home to the nuclear power plant, iodine distribution was reported as a preventive measure. Nothing published so far indicates that an attack is imminent.
