JPP proposes deadlines and €40 million for Madeira–mainland ferry in 2027 budget

MP Filipe Sousa has tabled a 2027 State Budget amendment setting deadlines and funding for a regular sea link between Madeira and the mainland.

Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) MP Filipe Sousa has submitted an amendment to the 2027 State Budget proposing a regular sea link between Madeira and mainland Portugal.

The proposal sets deadlines: by 31 March 2027 the government would define the service model and financing, and by 30 June it would launch a tender for year-round service carrying passengers, vehicles and rolling cargo. It allocates €40 million in 2027, capped as the annual maximum public compensation, and seeks European funding.

Sousa criticised years of unfulfilled promises and called on Madeira's PSD deputies to vote in favour. He said the proposal does not raise total spending, as the funds would come from reallocating a provisional reserve of the Finance Ministry.
