The regional coordinator of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP), Edgar Silva, presented the campaign "Children and parents with rights" in Curral das Freiras, criticising the lack of concrete measures to fully uphold children's rights in Madeira.
According to Silva, the initiative will run until February and include actions to identify cases where children's and parents' fundamental rights are not respected, followed by proposals for public policies.
Silva called for coherent, cross-sector policies at municipal and regional level, and pointed to housing waiting lists, access to medical consultations and surgery, and inequality in access to schooling.
