JPP deputy and Câmara de Lobos councillor Miguel Ganança has demanded that the Regional Government carry out an independent, comprehensive technical study comparing the alternatives for a new road link to Curral das Freiras before a final route is chosen.
He noted that the government has already contracted around 1.4 million euros in studies and designs for a link via Jardim da Serra, without a publicly known comparative assessment against other options, such as routes via Ribeira dos Socorridos and Boaventura.
Ganança argues that mixed routes, combining surface roads and tunnels, should be considered, and that assessments should cover travel time savings, risks, and emergency response capacity, not just construction costs.
