The Regional Secretary for Economy, José Manuel Rodrigues, expressed his sorrow over the death of Leonel Nunes, whom he called a "friend". Through his Facebook page, Rodrigues described Nunes as "a companion of many years and of so many struggles on opposite sides, but always putting Friendship, Solidarity, and Respect first."
Rodrigues recalled that, despite being political adversaries, their personal relationship was never affected by politics. "Politics never hindered our relationship and our gatherings in tertulias that dragged on for hours," he stated, highlighting Leonel Nunes's "political sharpness, deep social sensitivity, and commitment to improving the lives of workers."
The official also mentioned that the last time he saw Leonel Nunes was in January, sharing memories of "good times". Leonel Nunes, a militant and leader of the PCP, passed away at the age of 76, recognized for his commitment to workers' causes and as a convinced communist.
