JPP councilor Miguel Ganança accused the PSD majority in Câmara de Lobos Municipal Council, led by president Celso Bettencourt, of "propaganda" for announcing a reduction in the municipal IRS share from 3% to 2.5%. Ganança claims the PSD hid the fact that they refused to discuss and vote on the JPP's proposal to lower this share to 2%, which would have meant greater financial relief for families.
According to the JPP, their proposal was submitted more than 48 hours before the council meeting, but the president refused to put it to discussion and a vote. The party argues that the PSD could have disagreed and voted against it, but not prevented the debate. The JPP emphasizes that their proposed reduction could represent approximately 140,000 euros in relief, double what the municipality announced.
The councilor maintains that an external financial report confirms the municipality's solid financial situation, reinforcing the demand for greater tax relief. Ganança also criticized the president for requiring the opposition to submit proposals five working days in advance, while the majority presents theirs with only two working days, deeming this a "procedural wall" against the opposition.
