JPP Accuses PSD of "Political Whitewashing" on Problematic Hospital Discharges in SESARAM

The Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) party has accused the PSD of "political whitewashing" regarding the crisis of clinical discharges at the Regional Health Service (SESARAM). According to JPP, the PSD altered a request for a parliamentary hearing, replacing "problematic clinical discharges" with "situation of clinical discharges," which the party claims aims to "eliminate any explicit reference to the problem from parliamentary debate."

MP Patrícia Spínola criticized the decision, stating that changing words does not alter the reality for approximately 500 Madeirans who remain hospitalized despite being clinically discharged. The JPP also criticized the replacement of hearings with the regional secretaries of Health and Inclusion by the heads of their respective public bodies, deeming it "a clear evasion of democratic scrutiny."

The JPP maintains that the issue of clinical discharges is a major constraint on the functioning of Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça and other health units, causing prolonged bed occupancy and pressure on services. The party considers the Regional Government's announced measures insufficient and advocates for strengthening the continuing care network and home support, vowing to continue demanding clarification.
