The President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, reaffirmed Madeira's fiscal policy, assuring that the region will continue to focus on low taxes to attract investment.
"I want to tell you that I am not a socialist, I have never suffered from that disease. So, you can rest assured. Today, Madeira has the lowest taxes in Portugal and I will not increase them. The trend is precisely the opposite: it is to lower them," stated Albuquerque, justifying this choice with his economic vision that "when taxes are low, there is more investment, more employment, people's and companies' income increases, more money is spent, and everyone wins."
These statements came in response to a suggestion, made humorously by the owner of Quinta do Serrado, Ireneusz Migas, that Madeira's beauty "deserved to be taxed." Albuquerque also praised the recovery of Quinta do Serrado, considering it "a very welcome investment" that enhances the heritage of Câmara de Lobos and Madeira, highlighting the preservation of the vineyard, chapel, and manor house.
