The JPP party has announced the appointment of Duarte Vieira as its representative to the Madeiran community in Jersey. Vieira, a specialist nurse and founding member of JPP, resides on the island and will now serve as the party's liaison with the diaspora.
The Madeiran community in Jersey is estimated to be around 12,000 people, maintaining close ties with Madeira, particularly Funchal. This move aims to strengthen the party's presence among emigrants and mark a new phase in its engagement with Madeirans living abroad.
Duarte Vieira described the role as a "big challenge" and a "responsibility" he accepts with commitment, expressing his readiness to assist the community and ensure their concerns are heard. JPP Secretary-General Élvio Sousa emphasized the party's duty towards emigrants, whose contributions have been vital to Madeira.
