Iniciativa Liberal (IL) has expressed doubts about the method and timing chosen by the Funchal City Council for the creation of bus lanes on several city streets, including Rua 5 de Outubro, Rua 31 de Janeiro, and Rua do Visconde de Anadia.
IL believes that while improving public transport is a valid objective, measures of this scale require a rigorous assessment of their impact on car traffic, loading and unloading operations, local commerce, and access to parking facilities. The party questions whether the changes, which reserve approximately 775 meters of road for buses starting September 2nd, will truly improve traffic flow or merely concentrate more congestion elsewhere.
