The Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) party considers that the recent paralysis of several examination rooms and the systematic postponement of urgent and oncological medical procedures in Madeira are not unforeseen events, but rather the direct result of a policy of "propaganda and chronic underinvestment in human capital".
MP Patrícia Spínola criticized the installation of new X-ray equipment without hiring technicians to operate them, calling it an "unacceptable waste of public money". The JPP also points to the lack of technical direction in radiology and the difficulty in replacing staff on sick leave as causes for team exhaustion and the worsening situation, particularly in Porto Santo.
According to the party, salary devaluation and precarious working conditions lead technicians to seek private sector employment or emigrate, forcing patients outside Funchal to travel to the central hospital, further overloading it. The JPP warns that new recruitment drives are only a response to pressure and do not solve the underlying problem.
