The Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) party denounced this Monday a new situation of a disclaimer of responsibility request by nurses from the Medicine 3 Service of Marmeleiros Hospital. The JPP considers the case to evidence "chaos" in regional public health, the Regional Government's "incompetence" in finding solutions, the "lack of professionals," and the "amateurish and politicized" management of the Region's Health Service (SESARAM).
According to the party, this is the second time in two weeks that nurses have submitted a disclaimer request, repeating the problems that led nurses from Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital to take a similar stance. The nurses from the Medicine 3 Service claim "not to have the necessary conditions to ensure the provision of quality nursing care with the indispensable safety," contrary to professional ethics and citizens' right to adequate care.
The service should have 58 nurses, but currently has 26, six of whom are absent due to sick leave or prolonged absences. The situation worsened with the transfer of patients from Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital to Marmeleiros due to overcrowding, leading to patients being placed in corridors. The JPP criticizes the Regional Government for, according to the party, "denying evidence" and "constructing unreal versions to escape its responsibilities," recommending that it "stop playing" with the health of the Madeiran population.
