The JPP party, through its sole deputy Filipe Sousa, has presented a Bill in the Assembly of the Republic to establish the National Regime for Compensating the Additional Costs of Maritime Goods Transport.
The proposal covers transport between the mainland and the Autonomous Regions of the Azores and Madeira, as well as inter-island transport, aiming to mitigate the impact of insularity on the cost of living.
The subsidy could cover up to 100% of eligible costs, including maritime freight, port fees, and other logistical expenses associated with island status, with the goal of ensuring the reduction benefits the end consumer directly, not just transport companies.
