JPP Questions PSD on Unfulfilled Promises to Câmara de Lobos Fishermen

The Juntos pelo Povo (JPP) party has questioned the PSD about the fulfillment of promises made to the fishermen of Câmara de Lobos during the 2025 election campaign. Nuno Freitas, elected by JPP to the Parish Assembly, denounced the lack of responses and concrete measures from the municipal executive.

Freitas recalled the commitment of the then Social Democrat candidate for the Municipal Chamber, Celso Bettencourt, to create support infrastructure for fishing activities, such as storage and changing rooms. "Ten months after the current executive took office, there is no work, no clarification, they have forgotten the promise made," he stated, arguing that fishermen have the right to know when they can count on the announced structures.

The JPP also criticized the rejection of a proposal for direct support to fishermen, presented in the last budget. They consider that the priority given to the Black Scabbardfish Festival, with €77,000 in financial support, should be balanced with support for the fishermen. The party advocates for the creation of a municipal program for direct support to fishing, recognizing it as an economic, social, and cultural heritage of the municipality.
