The Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) party has questioned the Regional Government regarding the alleged failure to implement the promise that fuel in Madeira would be at least 10 cents cheaper per liter than on the mainland.
According to JPP, diesel in the region is only two cents cheaper, and 95-octane gasoline is six cents cheaper compared to the mainland. The party also notes that, in relation to the Azores, diesel is 25 cents more expensive in Madeira, and gasoline is five cents more expensive.
MP Luís Martins criticized what he considers an exploitation of the holiday period to "burden the precarious budgets of families," recalling that the Regional Government anticipates over 62 million euros in tax revenue from fuel in 2026. JPP argues this situation exacerbates inflation and the cost of living in the region.
