The Liberal Initiative (IL) has expressed its dissatisfaction with how the Regional Government (GR) has handled the process of defining the regional minimum wage for 2027. The party criticizes the announcement of a figure of 1,050 euros, made by the Regional Secretary for Economy and the President of the Regional Government, without the necessary consultation of social partners having been carried out.
The IL points out that this announcement was made even before the national minimum wage for 2027 was set, and that the Economic and Social Concertation Council of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (CECS-RAM) was not consulted, nor were the employer and trade union entities that make up the council. The party considers this to be a disregard for the legal procedure provided for in the Labour Code.
According to IL deputy Gonçalo Maia Camelo, wage enhancement is too important a matter to be reduced to a mere political announcement. The party argues that a political agreement between parties supporting the government does not replace consultation with social partners and that the legal process must be respected so that decisions are made responsibly and with input from those directly affected.
