The Liberal Initiative (IL) criticized how the State, the Autonomous Region, and Municipal Councils handle cultural heritage, regarding the announced sale of Lourdes Castro's house.
According to the IL, despite recognizing the cultural, architectural, and historical relevance of the space, and the artist considering the garden an integral part of her work, neither the State, the Autonomous Region, nor the Municipality of Santa Cruz have shown interest in acquiring the property for cultural purposes.
The liberal party questions the lack of concrete initiatives to preserve the space, such as creating a house-museum, and calls for clarification on whether there are projects with financial and legal frameworks for this purpose. The IL argues that if public authorities deem the property of public interest, they cannot expect the private owner to bear the costs alone or give up their rights, especially given the property's potential value of 4.1 million euros.
