Liberal MP contests 'greeting vote' for teachers, citing political instrumentalization

Gonçalo Maia Camelo, a Member of Parliament for the Liberal Initiative (IL), agreed on the importance of recognizing teachers' roles but questioned the purpose of a 'greeting vote' proposed by the JPP.

"This vote, unfortunately, is not a greeting vote," Camelo stated, accusing the proponents of seeking to instrumentalize teachers for political ends. The liberal deputy argued that the teaching profession should be valued but stated he would not support the initiative, believing it went beyond a simple tribute.

Miguel Castro, an independent MP, advocated for concrete measures to improve working conditions and enhance the teaching career, calling for defined objectives, deadlines, and measurable results. He also stressed the need to attract and retain teachers in Madeira.
